Kendra Rickert  began her dance training at the age of nine training in the Cecchitti method of ballet. As a child she performed extensively with Albuquerque Civic Light Opera and the New Mexico Ballet Company. She also trained in the modern techniques of Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham. After receiving her BFA in Acting from the College of Santa Fe, Kendra moved to Los Angeles where she had the honor and privilege of performing with and apprenticing under Rachel Rosenthal “the mother of performance art.” Under Rachel’s guidance Kendra developed her own solo performance pieces and performed them throughout the L.A. theatre scene. Her one woman show, The Match Girl, got rave reviews.

It was during this time that Kendra discovered yoga and found her teacher Bikram Choudhury. She practiced with him extensively for two years and with his encouragement and sponsorship she completed his teacher training in 2002. She stayed in Los Angeles for another two years teaching for him in his studio and then went to study Kundalini yoga in New Mexico with Yogi Bhajan. Kendra was inspired by the power of Kundalini yoga and found it to be a perfect compliment to her Bikram Yoga practice. She then moved to New York City where she continued performing, dancing, and practicing yoga. Kendra devoted much of her time to studying and practicing yoga under the guidance of Master Dharma Mittra. Dharma inspired her to surrender deeper to the practice of yoga, and to use it as an offering and as an artistic form of personal expression.

Kendra now lives most of the year in Arizona where she is a student and teacher Diamond Mountain University studying Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of Geshe Michael Roach and Lama Christie McNally.  After further studies at the great Tibetan monasteries in both southern and northern India, Kendra now works to incorporate Buddhist philosophies into her practice of yoga and dance in order to reach the divine. She is excited to teach and share what she has found and what, through the blessings of extraordinary teachers, she has been empowered to pass down.  Having completed four one-month solitary retreats, she is now preparing to undertake a three year silent meditation retreat in the fall of 2010. Kendra feels so blessed to have such remarkable teachers in her life and is extremely grateful for the practices and teachings they have each given her.
