Not Born In A Barn 08/15/2010
![]() Following a new tradition of working till late at our house and then going on vacation, Kevin busted his rump till 10pm at are cabin getting in all (that's right all) of our doors and windows. Thats 8 windows, a metal door, and a sliding glass door. Three times in the night we thought we were sunk and Kevin dropped the old tool belt in defeat but all three times he picked back up with new inspiration coming to the end of the night with all tasks achieved and into a victory celebration with homemade pizza from the Rickert gals. That's right, Kendra's sister had a great weekend here, or at least we had a great weekend with her here, even including a bowling night with all the DM gang in Safford (how did it take us 7 years to find the bowling alley?) and a quick visit to the nations least visited national monument. Special thanks to Nick for busting his rump with us, shlepping heavy junk, and reminding our seasoned builder that table saws and skills saws both cut stuff. Will Duncan and his kindergarten friend Scott appeared at of nowhere helping us to save our 80, 80 pound (not a typo) bags of stucco and 20 sheets of drywall from a sudden rain storm. Honorable mention to Earl for arriving just in time to get his face in this picture, close up shop, and eat pizza. Lightning Bolts 'n' Laser Beams 08/12/2010
![]() We're on a dash right now to figure out all our mechanically oriented stuffs (electric, plumbing, gas). Once we do that, then we can start to think about plaster. That's gonna change the way things look in a hurry. Jarret is the freaking man! He has worked with us the past three nights in a row getting the electric roughed in. He has been so kind and patient; constantly trying to show us how to help and making us feel like we got to play a big role in the process. Tonight he finished phase one and I'm so glad that it will be followed by a nice one week vacation for him. Tomorrow night we are hoping to have a little window and door party involving chips, sodas, Kendra's homemade pizza, and well windows and doors. Even expecting a visit from Kendra's sister Laura. Pics soon. Kendra's Mom Digs It! 08/01/2010
![]() Kendra's Mom, Judy, spent the weekend with us showing her support and even picking up a pickax and working to dig our drainage line. Incredible! I'm gonna guess this is her first time swinging a pick and she did it like a champ. After that she took a nice break from the sun sitting inside and was the first of us to actually get a little meditation time in the cabin. Thanks so much for being here Judy! A Floor 07/29/2010
![]() Yes, we have a floor now. Hard to describe how different it feels to walk in on wood instead of dirt. Kendra and I did a bunch of the digging out of the floor amidst a five day juice fast. We're recovered and refreshed now. Shortly, after Socorro and his crew (Daniel and Abel) made short work of hanging a real honest to goodness floor inside. Okay, they may have had to dig a bit more too. A sharp eye may notice a nice lady in the background. That's Kendra's mom in for a weekend visit. More on that in the next post. The Roof Is Shingled 06/29/2010
![]() The rains are starting to creep in. Lucky for us we have a fully shingled roof and no worries. So much thanks to Grant, Tamara, John, Naomi, Brian, Rob, Anik, Johanna, and especially Earl for helping us get this roof on in a hurry. Well here it is... 06/25/2010
![]() That's our cabin. Built to this point by Roger and Yvonne, we'll take it over from here. The cabin is about $12,000 in. With sizable donations from Stella, Karl, Alexander, Susan, Ritesh, Christine and a whopping sum from Lama Christie that puts us at about $30,000 raised and about a quarter of the way built. Lots more pics here. |
